This exhibition is the largest retrospective dedicated to Edgar Degas in recent decades in Italia: 80 masterpieces, only rarely exhibited in order to preserve them, which offer a glimpse of Parisian life in the late nineteenth century – the family environment, the world of artists, of music and cafés, the landscape, the horses, the dancers and the female nude – and give particular importance to the time the artist spent in Italia. Some of the most outstanding are “Family portrait” which has only left the Parisian museum very rarely owing to its large size (2x2.5m), one of most renowned and best loved masterpieces of all Degas’s output.
