05B. IVREA - AZEGLIO

Itinerary
This is the route of the "Old Ivrea-Vercelli Road" which more or less follows the path of the Roman road between Eporedia and Vercellae.
The area still retains memories of this ancient past, such as in Pobbia (from publica, referring obviously to "way") or, near to Azeglio, in the Shrine of Sant'Antonio Abate, hermitage and hostel for pilgrims built before the 12th century, which contains ancient frescoes in the apse.
A feature of this route is that it crosses through long stretches of uninhabited woods, so travellers must stock up at the few places available along the way with the supplies necessary.
