Castle
The Castle of Rivara is located in Canavese and consists of a medieval manor house and a neo-baroque palace - better known as Upper Castle and Lower Castle -, a stable block and a park that extends over the entire hill.
Since 1860, it has hosted the School of Rivara, a group of landscape painters who met in the town to paint en plein air, anticipating the movement of the French Impressionists. This circle included esteemed painters such as Carlo Pittara, Vittorio Avondo, Federico Pastoris, Alfredo d’Andrade, Ernesto Rayper and Casimiro Teja.
Today the castle is a centre of contemporary art with exhibition spaces and studios where Italian and foreign artists are hosted, as occurred during the nineteenth century.
