CASTELLO E PARCO DI MASINO

The Masino Castle that has dominated the vast Canavese plain from a hill in front of the picturesque Serra of Ivrea morainic barrier for ten centuries was the main residence of the counts of Valperga di Masino.
Until the Renaissance it was defended by high walls and imposing guard towers, which were later demolished; in fact, over the centuries the famous family transformed the Castle into an aristocratic residence, then into an elegant holiday home.
As a witness to this glorious past there are the frescoed and lavishly furnished halls, the rooms for ambassadors, the private apartments, the living rooms, the panoramic terraces: a refined display of sixteenth and eighteenth-century culture that found expression also in the rooms devoted to the celebration of knowledge , such as the invaluable library which houses more than 25 thousand ancient volumes.
Masino Castle is surrounded by a monumental romantic park with one of the largest mazes in Italy, a majestic tree-lined avenue, large clearings and scenic corners which in spring are inundated with exceptional blossomings.
