CHIESA DI SAN GIOVANNI

Church
Built in the 13th century, the parish church of San Giovanni, in Avigliana, has a single nave layout with side chapels dating back to 17th century. The original building probably already had the flat apse that can still be seen, while the first layout was likely to have been in a Latin cross. The medieval part of the building that has remained intact consists of the atrium, built according to patterns of contemporary French architecture. The church owes its importance to the works which it still contains: the 16th century pulpit; paintings by Defendente Ferrari (late 15th to early 16th century); altar pieces; triptychs and numerous works attributed to the work of his shop. The Church of San Giovanni a certainly an art gallery.
