CASTELLO REALE DI GOVONE

Royal Residence
On holiday among frescoes and gardens.
A fortress dating back to medieval times, it was reconstructed in its current baroque form by the counts Solaro, to whom we owe the statues decorating the facade which came from the Palace of Venaria, and the 18th century Chinese wallpaper decorating many of the rooms.
Acquired by the Savoy family at the end of the 18th century, it was selected by Charles Felix as his summer residence: the king had the interiors redecorated with spectacular frescoes and glorious trompe-l’oeil, such as those inspired by mythology that decorate the main reception room.
The Castle of Govone is also famous for its 18th century Italian gardens where a wide variety of roses and a rare species of wild tulip can be found.
