LA JUIVE

From 21 September to 3 October, Fromental Halévy’s opera La Juive will be staged at the Teatro Regio, a century and a half after its last performance in Turin. On the podium a prestigious conductor, Daniel Oren; direction and staging are by Stefano Poda. Love, death and mystery are the ingredients of a gripping opera, full of grandiose scenes and seductive melodies, that shakes you to the core. In the past of Rachel, the daughter of a Jewish jeweller, lies a secret that could save her, but the religious obscurantism of her father and the context in which she lives will lead her to a tragic end. In this symbol-laden proposal, Éléazar, one of the most complex tenor roles in the French repertoire, will be played by Gregory Kunde, his daughter Rachel by Mariangela Sicilia.
