Castelnuovo is one of the most important modern day pilgrimage destinations: on 16 August 1815, in the Becchi district of the village of Morialdo (now known as Colle Don Bosco) was born St Giovanni Bosco. Visiting these places means rediscovering his extraordinary personality and his work spread around the whole world: the route climbs to the Colle from Morialdo, where there is also one of the houses where St Domenico Savio lived (born in the village of Mondonio); you then enter the "Road of the Pope" (in memory of the visit by Pope John Paul II in 1993) and reach the Shrine consisting of two overlapping churches topped by a dome.
The route then continues through meadows and woods towards Capriglio, the place where Don Bosco's mother was born, the Venerable Margherita Occhiena. Here there are two churches dedicated to San Martino, one in the cemetery area and the other in the village of Serra, with traces of Romanesque structure; in the former primary school there is the Museum dedicated to mother Margherita.
