SECTOR: STRIATURE NERE – Many consider this the very best cliff in the Susa valley, and certainly one of the best in Piedmont. A strictly vertical or overhanging wall, often climbed just using fingers with long sections on small belays. Situated at around 550 metres above sea level and with a south-facing exposure, the wall of this cliff can be climbed throughout the year, although only after 5pm in the summer when it starts going into the shade beginning from the left.
The slightly underestimated difficulty together with some wear in the rock makes this a medium to high ability cliff. The length of the pitches averages 25m but, for some of the shorter climbs, a 60m rope is recommended. On the whole, the equipment is very good, using resin bolts or spit-fix of 10mm size – except for a very few routes that still need re-pegging.
