Moncensio - Susa - Villar Focchiardo

Journey time 6 hours
58 Km of paved road 90 Km of dirt road 148 Km in total

This 150 km trail crosses the central part of Val Susa and climbs to Colle del Moncenisio.
The starting point can be in Susa, taking a paved road to Villar Focchiardo from where a number of dirt roads lead to the ruins of Banda Abbey and then to Mattie and Meana di Susa, the start of the climb to Pian Gelassa and Pian del Frais. From here an easy dirt road descends to Chiomonte. Having reached Susa again, the climb begins to Colle del Moncenisio.
On reaching Bar Cenisio, a dirt road on the left leads to lake Arpone and then continues along a challenging and uneven section to the dam at the lake of Moncenisio, at the end of which a short detour can be taken to Colle del Piccolo Moncenisio where Hannibal is presumed to have passed on his march to Roma.
For the descent to return to Susa, an alternative route is available along a paved road that crosses through the village of Moncenisio and its small lake of Ferrera, ultimately descending all the way to Novalesa where there is the famous abbey founded in the year 900. The return to Susa is along a tarmac road.
