SERGENT E CAPORAL

Climbing
Difficulty: 5+ / 8a+
Length: 2 h 45
The historical realm of the classic routes on sunny granite gneiss rock, on the Piedmont side of the Gran Paradiso National Park.
The rock walls of Sergent and Caporal are situated at a height of about 1500m, and have a total of approximately 70 routes, many of which in cracks of length varying from 30 to 250m. These are the most famous routes of the Valle Orco which, in the 1970s, were the centre of rock climbing's evolution. In the second half of the 70s, a wide range of climbers (many of whom from Turin), in the wake of the legendary Californian Yosemite Valley, mapped out a series of routes on these rock faces which were futuristic for their time (not for nothing was the Orco Valley known as the "Yosemite Valley Piemontese"). The rock faces can be reached 10-15 minutes from the car park.
