HOKUSAI HIROSHIGE HASUI - VIAGGIO NEL GIAPPONE CHE CAMBIA

CULTURE & TRADITION
-
On display the works of two great Masters of the “Floating World” of the 19th century, Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige, along with modern prints by Kawase Hasui, an exponent of the shin hanga movement (“new prints”), which developed the themes and polychrome woodcutting techniques also in the Meiji periods (1868-1912), Taisho (1912-1926) and part of the Showa, until the mid-1950s when it was named “living national treasure”.
The exhibition itinerary proposes, through a selection of 100 extraordinary woodcuts by the three masters, a journey into the most evocative places in Japan, real and imaginary, telling the artistic world of a country that underwent enormous transformation between the late 19th and early 20th centuries under the influence of the West, to understand how this fluctuating world merges with a society that aspires to European and other artistic standards, witnessed by Hasui.
