IL TESTAMENTO DEL CAPITANO. I GIOVANI E LA GRANDE GUERRA TRA ILLUSIONI E REALTÀ

CULTURE & TRADITION
-
The exhibition presents documents drawn from the funds of the Royal Library and original objects from private collections, evidence of historical and social transformations that led to the drama of the conflict of the First World War. The title of the exhibition recalls that of a Renaissance ballad of the Piemonte area: at the end of the 19th century the poet and scholar Costantino Nigra studied and transcribed its text, which transmits the homesickness of the soldiers for their homeland and their aversion to war; the ballad has been handed down with changes and updates, becoming one of the songs of the Alpini (Italian alpine troopers) during the First World War.
