LE ARMI E IL POTERE: L'ARCANGELO LONGOBARDO

CULTURE & TRADITION
-
An ancient thread, more than a thousand years old, links Torino to Puglia, also highlighted by the exchange of finds and evidence from the Longobard period between the TECUM-Shrine of St Michele Arcangelo in Monte Sant’Angelo (Foggia) and the Museum of Antiquity, with a focus on the figure of the Archangel Michael, who appears in the Bible as a warrior angel, placed at the head of celestial militias.
These warlike traits favored his adoption, as patron saint, by Byzantine, Longobard and Carolingian rulers and sovereigns.
The cast of the epigraphs of the apparatus engraved on the structures of the sanctuary in the Gargano area are on exhibit.
