SULLE TRACCE DEI GHIACCIAI

CULTURE & TRADITION
-
"Sulle tracce dei ghiacciai", at the National Mountain Museum of Turin until August 30, 2020, is an international project by Fabiano Ventura between photographic documentation and scientific research, two fields that enter into dialogue with the aim of detecting and analyzing the effects that climate change has had on glaciers in the last hundred years.
In the course of five expeditions - Karakorum (2009), Caucasus (2011), Alaska (2013), Andes (2016) and Himalaya (2018) - Ventura, a mountain photographer, has followed the traces of the first photographers and explorers of the late 19th and early 20th century together with a team of researchers, directors and photographers. The team worked to take photographs that portray historical views from the exact geographical point and at the same time of year as those of the past: visual comparison and scientific measurements in the field document the change and the unstoppable melting of the ice. The exhibition also offers a preview of a bird’s eye view of the Lys glacier on Monte Rosa, taken on the occasion of the Alps 2020 pre-expedition.

The exhibition is completed by an interactive video installation entitled "In cammino nel tempo", which allows visitors to interact with ancient and modern images through a sensory experience on the theme of time.
