Sprinting and jumping at high altitude with the High Speed League at Sestriere. The historic athletics track at Colle di Sestriere, recently refurbished and homologated according to European and world standards, as well as the highest in Europe at 2035 metres above sea level, will be the protagonist again on Sunday 10 August with the 2025 edition of the Sestriere International Meeting.
The cast of participants promises to be first-rate, with several world-class athletes already confirmed.
The Meeting will start at 11.30 a.m. and will continue throughout the afternoon until 4.30 p.m., with the various finals distributed throughout the day. In the first part the international competitions of the different specialities (speed, hurdles and jumps) will be staged, while in the second part the High Speed League - the circuit of 100m, 200m and 400m sprint races open to athletes of all levels - will take place.
The High Speed League was created precisely to enable all sprinters to compete on very fast tracks, making the most of factors such as favourable wind and altitude. It is no coincidence that the organisers define it as a small, all-Italian “Diamond League”, structured on several stages in the legendary blue slopes of Donnas (AO) and Sestriere (TO), where athletes are put in the best conditions to achieve great performances.
The choice of Sestriere as a stage venue is no coincidence. Thanks to the altitude (over 2000 metres above sea level), the two timed straights with “light” breezes in their favour, the Colle track is considered among the best performing in the world for sprinters. Every year, hundreds of athletes climb up here in the hope of finding a valuable ally in the wind to lower their times.
