COMUNE DI CHIESANUOVA

Comune
The village of Chiesanuova is located near the Riale stream, on the southern slope of Mount Quinzeina, in the westernmost part of the Sacred Valley, at 687 metres above sea level. It stands on a natural terrace and constitutes one of the most evocative panoramic points of the Valley itself.+ A village of medieval origin, it was a fief of the San Martino di Castelnuovo family, which assumed the title of Chiesanuova in 1400.

Today Chiesanuova is an important centre for free flight in paragliders: a major attraction for tourists and visitors, who can take advantage of a camper van area with various services and enjoy spectacular views over the plains and pleasant excursions in the good air.

Chiesanuova is a scattered municipality: the Upper Cresto, where the Parish Church of S. Maria Maddalena is located, is considered the centre of the village; just below is the Lower Cresto ( Cresotàn ). At Crosio there is the chapel of San Rocco, while at Strole there is the chapel of the Consolata.
From the Cresto Superiore one then ascends to the hamlets of Piloni, where there are numerous votive shrines, and Massè, via a mule track or a paved road that passes behind the cemetery.
In Belice there is a picnic area in the shade of chestnut trees and a small church dedicated to the Madonna Consolata, already in the territory of Cuorgnè.
