PARCO LA POLVERIERA

Park
The Parco della Polveriera is located on the shore of Lake S. Michele and occupies one of the last Ivrea hills overlooking the alluvial plain of the Dora Baltea river.
The area is characterised by a high degree of biodiversity that derives from the undulating morphology and the presence of Lake S. Michele, which makes it possible to find a variety of environments in a very small space. Its position together with its environmental peculiarities make it an ideal place for recreational activities as well as a gateway to the five lakes area and a starting point for walking and cycling.

The area is called ’Polveriera’ in reference to the past use that was made of the area. In fact, around the second half of the 19th century, the Italian Army used this wooded area, far from the inhabited centre, as an ammunition depot, delimiting its boundary with a stone wall at the corners of which small sighting niches were built. In the years following the Second World War, the military garrison in Ivrea declined in importance and in 1969 the State ceded it to the Municipality of Ivrea.
