Torino: A Year of Family-Friendly Events You Can't Miss

Big and small events, sports and nature, music and theater, fun and passion await you in Turin: twelve months of unique opportunities to experience the city.

Those who know it will tell you, Torino is constantly buzzling and offers a rich program of exciting and family-friendly events every month of the year!

 

An Extra Gear

“A bunch of surprises under the Mole”: the heart of sport beats in Torino and it starts on two wheels, with none other than the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France! The two events are accompanied by a full calendar of themed events, #TorinoToRide: exhibitions, shows and bike activities will enliven the city throughout the period. Don't miss the appointment with Bimbimbici spread across many Italian squares on May 11 and 12. t's a joyful, safe bike ride to promote active mobility and encourage everyone, even the youngest, to use bikes.

The "pink jersey race" for the 2024 edition has chosen Piemonte as the starting region and home of the first three stages: it starts on May 4 in Venaria Reale to land, after 136 kilometers, in the beautiful setting of Piazza Gran Madre in Torino. The passage of the riders on the Superga hill is planned, 75 years after the tragedy of the Grande Torino. Not to be missed is the Giroland Fan Village in Piazza Vittorio, to fully experience the festive excitement of the event with music and entertainment dedicated to adults and children.

From pink to yellow: for the first time, the Tour de France starts in Italy under the Brunelleschi dome in Florence, with an exciting third stage from Piacenza to Turin, 231 kilometers of breathtaking scenery and a fast finish in front of the Inalpi Arena on July 1.

For running enthusiasts, mark your calendars for May 19 with the TuttaDritta, part of the Reale Marathon series, starting from the Race Village in Piazza San Carlo: a spectacular, straight race with a regal finish at the Hunting Palace of Stupinigi. Don't miss Una Corsa da Re on Sunday, October 13, preceded by the Corsa del Principino on Saturday, winding through the magnificent gardens of the Reggia di Venaria and the La Mandria Natural Park.

But that's not all: in the fall, it's time for the Nitto ATP FINALS, where the top eight tennis players in the world compete in Turin. This event has become a city-wide celebration: don't miss the Fan Village, offering attractions and entertainment, delicious treats for all tastes, and a special kids' area with labs, activities, and special challenges for younger audiences. May, time for books

"Imaginary Life" is the theme of this year's International Book Fair, which will be inaugurated on May 9 by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elizabeth Strout. With 100,000 square meters of book fair space, it promises to become a magical and timeless place where you can meet your favorite comic book artist for an autograph or discover that rare book from an independent publisher.

The program is set to be rich with events, shows, workshops, and major guests, with a particular focus on engaging children. Highlights for families include activities by Nicoletta Costa from her book “20 Years of Giulio Coniglio” and a workshop by Francesco D'Ippolito inspired by "90 Years of Emotions with Donald Duck: How a Topolino Comic Book Story is Born." Additionally, the fair will offer a Baby Parking area with specialized staff, providing care and entertainment for children aged 4 to 10 throughout the event.

 

 

Outdoor Shows

Mark your calendars for two major September events: the Salone Auto Torino 2024 from the 13th to the 15th, and Terra Madre Salone del Gusto from the 26th to the 30th.

The Salone Auto returns to Torino after five years, transformed into a large open-air event. It's a perfect attraction for the whole family: a free stroll from Piazza Carlo Felice to Piazza Castello, where you can admire the evolution of automotive technology, from classic cars to dream supercars and hypercars. A highlight, especially for younger visitors, will be the dynamic inauguration on September 13th, featuring a parade of early 19th-century horse-drawn carriages followed by some of the first combustion-engine vehicles.

At Parco Dora, Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2024 takes visitors on a unique journey through the flavors and traditions from around the world. Besides exploring the stands, meeting producers, and tasting various delicacies, Terra Madre also offers appointments and meetings not only focused on food but also on sustainability, biodiversity, and the planet's future. Terra Madre for Kids is a program designed for children and teenagers, filled with activities and games to promote education about food, nutrition, and the environment. Keep an eye on Parco Dora, but also the OFF section with parties, book presentations, meetings, dinners, exhibitions, and guided tours throughout the city.

 

To the Theater, Kids!

Torino's theaters pay special attention to families, offering shows and events that captivate children and adults alike. Casa del Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani presents a diverse lineup from October to May, while Casa Fools in Via Bava offers its popular "Spectacular Sundays" with a combination of shows and snacks.

In July, Torino hosts Lunathica, an international street theater festival featuring new circus acts, dance, visual comedy, and magic. Moncalieri holds the Nice Festival from September 22 to 29, with international artists and activities for the whole family.

 

Outdoor Fun

Torino, one of Italy's greenest cities, offers many outdoor events. Parco Naturale La Mandria has sensory trails and workshops on ecology and biology. At Zoom in Cumiana, the new Butterfly Oasis is a colorful greenhouse filled with these gentle creatures, complete with a chrysalis nursery. The Cavour Castle Park in Santena hosts spring-themed events, while Miradolo Castle in San Secondo di Pinerolo features art and nature activities.

Don't miss the special Halloween family tour in Vidracco on October 27, complete with spooky surprises. The summer festivals bring more excitement, like the Flowers Festival at Parco della Certosa di Collegno and Borgate dal Vivo in Val di Susa's Forte di Exilles, offering live events and theater.
