VALLE ARGENTERA E MONTI DELLA LUNA

Itinerary departing from Cesana Torinese. Following the direction of Sauze di Cesana, climb along the Dora Riparia until the junction with the dirt road for Valle Argentera. This first part of the outward and return journey allows you to get to know a valley with a very interesting landscape at some alpine pastures and agritourism facilities, it is also possible to buy typical products and stop for lunch.

The dirt road, which is very wide and easy to follow, allows you to reach the top of the Gran Miol grange and then descend on the orographic right, touching the Alpe Plane grange; returning to the valley on the same route, after a short asphalt stretch you arrive at Bousson and from here take the dirt road to Lago Nero; a demanding stretch leads to the Capanna Mautino hut with panoramic views of Monte Chaberton and its imposing fortification.

Turn back and head west to the village of Sagna Longa, continue towards Claviere. Along an asphalt road, you can cross the border into France and descend to Briançon, where we recommend a short visit to the historical centre of the town, with its fortifications developed since the 15th century with the contribution of France’s most famous military engineers such as Vauban, Séré de Rivières and Maginot.

If you retrace your steps, at Les Albertes you take the splendid Névache valley, which we follow for a long stretch until the diversions onto a dirt road at Val-des-Prés. You then return to the asphalt road at the junction for Colle della Scala (1778 m) before descending to Bardonecchia. From here it is possible to reach the Colle del Sommeiller (3000 m) on a spectacular dirt road along the Rochemolles valley, to be completed both ways. We then return to the asphalt road, pass through Oulx and close in Cesana Torinese.
